چکیده

The objective of this work is to estimate the production frontier and technical efficiency levels of Côte d’Ivoire firms. The methodology used is closely linked to the recent nonparametric frontier models, as for example Cazals, Florens and Simar (2002), Aragon, Daouia and Thomas-Agnan (2003) or Florens and Simar (2001). The main advantage compared to the classical nonparametric methods (DEA, FDH) is the robustness to outliers and we show that these latest technics are in particular more adapted to our database. We also modelize the technical efficiency by introducing external environment factors that might influence the production process. Using bootstrap technics, and following the ideas from Simar and Wilson (2003), we take into account the heterogeneity of our database and explain the variability of firms performance.

Influences of the business environment on manufacturing firms technical efficiencies: the Côte d’Ivoire case

In this paper we estimate a stochastic production frontier in a panel of manufacturing firms in Côte d’Ivoire. Our main interest is on the impact of the business environment on technical efficiency levels. Moreover the chosen modeling allows us to derive managerial efficiencies, and then define most efficient firms independently of business environment influences. A non-neutral modeling of the ...

بررسی اثر مالکیت و مدیریت دولتی بر ناکارایی صنایع تولیدی در استان‌های مختلف ایران

Investigating the efficiency of different economic sectors, especially the industrial sector, as well as the factors affecting the efficiency of this sector is one of the most important economic issues. Various methods are used to measure the technical efficiency, and the stochastic frontier production function analysis is one of them. In this method, by using econometric techniques, the effici...

Distinguishing Between Heterogeneity and Inefficiency: Stochastic Frontier Analysis of the World Health Organization’s Panel D

The most commonly used approaches to parametric (stochastic frontier) analysis of efficiency in panel data, notably the fixed and random effects models, fail to distinguish between cross individual heterogeneity and inefficiency. This blending of effects is particularly problematic in the World Health Organization’s (WHO) panel data set on health care delivery, which is a 191 country, five year...

Inefficiency persistence and heterogeneity in Colombian electricity distribution utilities

The electricity reform in Colombia has exhibited gains in terms of reliability but its effects on firms efficiency and service quality have not been clear. Previous studies evaluating the performance of distribution companies after the reform have not found evidence of improvements, although large differences in efficiency have been found among firms. This suggests high inefficiency persistence...

Fixed and Random Effects in

Received analyses based on stochastic frontier modeling with panel data have relied primarily on results from traditional linear fixed and random effects models. This paper examines extensions of these models that circumvent two important shortcomings of the existing fixed and random effects approaches. The conventional panel data stochastic frontier estimators both assume that technical or cos...
